Breakspeare School

Changes to Lesson Times at Breakspeare School on Fridays :

Tiny Tigers 5.00pm-5.45 pm

Main Class for all grades incl Brown and Black belts 6.00pm-7.00pm

Once a month 7.00pm-7.30pm Brown and Black belts

These changes are from this week 6th March and the first brown and black belt extra lesson will be on this week with Brian.

We are excited to announce that the Tiny Tigers Class will now be instructed by Danni (Mummy Tiger)

Danielle is Director with Brian Owen of MBKD Southern and has been training nearly 20 years and is a 3rd Dan. Danielle wrote the Tiny Tiger syllabus and has experience as a gymnast and fitness instructor.

The Main class will now be taken by Nick Heaps. Nick is one of our grading panel and has been training for many years also and is a 2nd Dan. Nicks technical knowledge is superb and he always trains hard and gives 100%. He will be a fantastic addition to the Abbots team.

The extra class once a month will be taken by Brian Owen to prepare the brown and black belts for the black belt grading and more technical knowledge.

Also we are happy to confirm that Oliver Parkes is now the instructor of the Tiny Tigers at Hemel Hempstead on a Sunday. Oliver has been with the club since he was a young boy and trains week in week out committing to every class. Oliver is a 3rd Dan and also one of our grading panel.

All other classes will remain the same times, don’t forget if you can’t make a lesson you can always go to one of the other classes on a different day. Change is good as you come out of your comfort zone and focus on your own journey of karate.

Special thanks to Maurice and Micheal as well who have been supporting the changes.

Roundwood park Thursdays

If you train at Roundwood on a Thursday in the school gym the floor is waiting to be resurfaced and is now not the best to train barefoot on. We have asked about an alternative hall but they have nothing available therefore until the floor is mended can all students bring and wear suitable trainers/plimsoles at the lesson. No flip flops or loose shoes ie crocs as may slip off or cause injury.
Many thanks

For your information only lessons will be running as normal

Road closure – roundwood park 15th & 16th February

Dear Lettee,

Just to let you know you will only be able to approach the school from Park Hill as Roundwood Park will be closed for waterworks repairs.

Kind regards

Grading / Assessment Dates 2020

Grading / Assessment Dates 2020

The following dates are for all grades including brown/red belts for whom assessments will be held on the same day as the gradings.

March 15th 2020

June 14th 2020

September 20th 2020

December 6th 2020

Times will be confirmed for each belt colour on the grading forms nearer the time.

We are sorry if these dates clash with any plans but we are unable to offer individual gradings.

The gradings will be held at Roundwood Park Sports Centre AL5 3AE

The brown/red belt assessments take place every 3 months. Every brown/red belt is expected to attend and the dates have been given ahead of time to allow you to plan for these days.

The journey from brown belt to black belt can be a steep learning curve and we want to be able to give the best opportunity to everyone to focus on their goal and train to keep fitness levels up and a chance to go over the current syllabus for the black belt.

It is not possible in lesson time to run through the whole syllabus and the assessments are a great opportunity to keep in touch with the basics and katas that need to be learnt. The assessments are of benefit to all brown/red belts and enables you to have an extended training session focusing purely on your level.  Black belt excellence is kept in mind and an environment that reflects the level of knowledge required in a pressured environment that you will be expected to strive for to reach black belt. The assessments will be free of charge and only those that are due to grade will have to pay the fee for the grading in the normal way.

Even brown/red belts that do not have enough stamps to be considered for grading are still expected to come so that we are able to assess their performance and give feedback on the areas that need more focus.
